COURSE BACKGROUND
Once you complete this programme you will be able to apply accounting and numeracy skills to enter an accounting occupation directly and be able to deal with all procedures such as to understand accounting and management principles to have the acquired knowledge and skills of accounting systems generally used by business enterprises, also to have the knowledge and skills of all administrative accounting tasks. The programme progresses through three levels. Each N level takes place over one semester. After each semester, students are eligible for a National Certificate on that level. We recommend continuing through all three levels in order to qualify for the National Diploma. The National Diploma requires students to work for 18 months at a Financial Institution before they are entitled to receive a National Diploma.
The focus is on accounting. The curriculum concentrates on the management of the financial affairs of an organization and on concluding their studies; students will have the ability to analyze financial and statistical information, check accounts, and provide financial advice. Students will also have a thorough knowledge of Pastel Accounting and Pastel Payroll packages.

Financial Accounting
Financial Accounting studies the basic accounting principles and its contra accounts. Students will have the skills to enter data from the journal to general ledger, cashbook and bank reconciliation. How to do the books of different organisations will be covered e.g. partnerships, public and private companies, corporations, etc.
Management Communication
Studies the different disciplines of communication, motivation and self image as tools in the organisation. Practical activities are included, especially the writing of business communication documents. This subject also studies the theory behind advertising, the communication tool for marketing, with emphasis on the role it plays in marketing strategies of an organization.
Computerized Financial Systems
This subject provides the student with the necessary background to do Pastel Accounting and Pastel Payroll. The subject is presented in a practical and accessible manner.
Entrepreneurship and Business Management
Entrepreneurship and Business Management studies the different aspects of starting your own business. It provides basic knowledge of how to draw up a business plan and all the necessary aspects needed for a business plan.

Income Tax
Income Tax provides students with the necessary skills to understand the different types of taxation and how the calculations are done.
There is a big demand for accountants and bookkeepers in the job market. Financial Management graduates will have access to various clerical and administrative positions, Accounting office, Accountant for private and government departments, Private Accountant for private companies.
Grade 12 National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification
Upon completion, certification will be issued from the Department of Higher Education & Training [DHET].
The National Diploma in Financial Management is made up of the following courses which are done over a period of 18 months.
National Certificate (N4): Financial Accounting, Management Communication, Computerized Financial Systems, Entrepreneurship & Business Management.
National Certificate (N5 + N6): Financial Accounting, Computerized Financial Systems, Entrepreneurship & Business Management, Cost & Management Accounting. Elective: Economics, Income Tax, Mercantile Law.
