Course Overview: Safety, Health, and Quality Practitioner
Occupational health and safety experts play a crucial role in identifying, preventing, and minimizing dangerous situations in the workplace. These professionals help reduce the risk of accidents, disabilities, deaths, and long-term health impacts on workers. By developing safer, more efficient processes, they create a healthier environment for employees and organizations.
If you choose to pursue a career in this field, your role may involve designing programs that control, eliminate, or prevent health problems caused by chemical, physical, or biological agents. You may also advise companies on using ergonomically designed furniture and equipment, conduct safety inspections, and evaluate how well employers adhere to laws and regulations that protect workers’ health and safety.
Course Duration and National Examination
The Safety, Health, and Quality Practitioner course is one year long, with three intakes per year: January, June, and September. After completing the course, learners must write national exams, which are held in March and October/November each year.
Knowledge Modules
The course includes a set of compulsory knowledge modules:
- Fundamentals of Occupational Health and Safety
- Fundamentals of Communication
- Occupational Health and Safety Applications
- Occupational Health and Safety Management
- Operations Management and Supervision
Practical Skill Modules
In addition to theoretical knowledge, the course emphasizes practical skills. Learners will:
- Represent employees’ Occupational Health and Safety needs
- Inspect workplaces, identify hazards, and take immediate actions to ensure safety
- Consult with employees, raising their concerns
- Develop risk profiles and legal registers for work areas
- Manage emergency response and preparedness plans
- Improve Occupational Health and Safety systems
Work Experience Modules
The work experience modules provide hands-on exposure to various processes:
- Perform workplace examination processes
- Manage Occupational Health and Safety risk assessments
- Select and manage Occupational Health and Safety representatives
- Implement and monitor health and safety systems
- Oversee the continuous improvement of these systems

Learners who have passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: Safety, Health and Quality Practitioner (Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner by Quality Council.
