Course Background: Bookkeeping (NQF Level 5)

This qualification is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of bookkeeping and business principles, preparing them for a career in accounting or related fields. Knowledge Modules (104 Credits)

The knowledge modules provide a foundational understanding of bookkeeping and accounting practices. Students will gain essential skills in areas like bookkeeping practice, taxation, and financial calculations, which are fundamental for anyone pursuing a career in bookkeeping or accounting.

Key modules include:

  • Bookkeeping Practice (NQF Level 5, 20 Credits)
  • Accounting Information Systems (NQF Level 5, 10 Credits)
  • Financial Accounting (NQF Level 5, 25 Credits)
  • Basic Taxation (NQF Level 4, 5 Credits)

Practical Skill Modules (80 Credits)

The practical skill modules provide students with real-world bookkeeping experience. Students will learn how to use accounting software, maintain financial records, and improve communication with clients. These skills are essential for anyone pursuing a successful bookkeeping career.

Key modules include:

  • Use of a Recognized Accounting System (NQF Level 5, 20 Credits)
  • Maintain and Update Financial Records (NQF Level 5, 20 Credits)
  • Apply Fundamental Financial Techniques (NQF Level 5, 8 Credits)
  • Effective Communication in Customer Relations (NQF Level 5, 10 Credits)

Work Experience Modules (180 Credits)

The work experience modules offer students the opportunity to apply their bookkeeping knowledge in real-world work environments. Students will practice tasks such as reconciling sales records, preparing financial reports, and processing payroll transactions, all crucial aspects of a bookkeeping role.

Key modules include:

  • Record and Calculate Financial Transactions (NQF Level 5, 20 Credits)
  • Reconcile Sales and Financial Records (NQF Level 4, 20 Credits)
  • Prepare Statutory Returns for Tax Compliance (NQF Level 5, 20 Credits)
  • Audit Packs According to Internal Control Procedures (NQF Level 5, 5 Credits)
  • Executive assistant
  • Secretary
  • Office manager
  • Reception
  • Administrative clerk

Grade 10

Students need to have access to the Microsoft Office Suite (inclusive of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Certification
Learners who have passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE by Quality Council. Certificates are only issued to students that pass the EISA (NATIONAL EXAMS) whereby this certificate is Nationally and Internationally recognized.
