COURSE BACKGROUND
The Home-Based Care program at Greenview College prepares students for a rewarding career in home-based healthcare, focusing on the essential skills required for providing care in a patient’s home environment. This course equips students with the knowledge, practical skills, and work experience to become competent in delivering high-quality care to individuals in need.
COURSE BREAKDOWN (HPO)
Knowledge Modules:
- Fundamentals of Home-Based Care
- Total number of credits for Knowledge Modules: 8
Practical Skill Modules:
- Identify and report on the possible needs of patients and family/household members on an ongoing basis
- Implement delegated components of the care plan (Household and patient)
- Capacitate patients/family/household members in basic practical care skills
- Total number of credits for Practical Skill Modules: 30
Work Experience Modules:
- Exposure to the processes of monitoring the implementation of home-based care plans
- Exposure to the processes of ensuring the active participation of patients and households in the management of care at home
- Exposure to the processes of capacitating patients/family/household members in basic practical care skills
- Exposure to the referral processes

DURATION OF THE COURSE
This is a 12-month course with two intakes per year: January and June.
NATIONAL EXAMINATION
Learners will complete internal assessments, including formative and summative assignments (01-16), as part of the general assessments towards the Portfolio of Evidence (POE) file. Students will also undertake monthly internal assessments, mid-year exams, and end-of-year exams to track progress toward the final EISA exams. After completing the required 12, 18, or 24 months of study, students will be eligible to sit for the EISA Examinations, which are overseen by Seta.
Learners who have passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: HOME BASED PERSONAL ASSISTANT by Quality Council. Certificates are only issued to students that pass the EISA (NATIONAL EXAMS) whereby this certificate is Nationally and Internationally recognized.
