The NATED N4-N6 Civil/Building Engineering Qualification

Greenview College offers a comprehensive NATED N4-N6 Civil/Building Engineering qualification. This program provides students with essential theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience to help them succeed in the civil engineering field. Students will complete courses across the N4, N5, and N6 levels, followed by a practical component that includes 24 months (2,000 working hours) in the field. Upon completion, students will earn a National Certificate or Diploma in Civil/Building Engineering.

Practical Training Modules

Level 1 Civil Engineering Practicals (120 Hours)
In this phase, students will complete essential practical work in trades like bricklaying, plastering, terrazzo work, and wall tiling. Key modules include:

  • Hand Tools: Understanding and caring for basic hand tools used in the trades.
  • Building Materials: Recognizing various sands, stones, and aggregates for construction.
  • Material Tests: Performing tests on site materials, such as aggregate cleanliness and cement setting time.

Level 2 Civil Engineering Practicals (120 Hours)
After completing N4 or before starting N6, students can participate in advanced practical training. This includes:

  • Solar Plumbing Installation: A 5-day course focusing on the installation of solar plumbing systems.
  • Land Surveying & Setting Out: A 5-day course centered around land surveying skills and construction site preparation.

  • N4 Entry Requirement: Matric/Grade 12 (with full mathematics and science 40%+ Passrate), or N3 Pass (with mathematics and science)

NOTE: Proceed to the next level only when the previous level has been successfully completed i.e. N4 for N5, etc.

Upon completion of every level, a certificate will be issued from the Department of Education. A Diploma will be issued by the Department of Education on completion of N6 as well as two (2) years on the job training/attachment in the relevant industry
The qualification is made up of the following modules which are done over a period of 24 months.

National Certificate (N3): Engineering Mathematics, Building Science, Building Drawing, Building & Civil Technology.
National Certificate (N4 + N5 + N6): Engineering Mathematics, Building & Structural, Surveying, Building & Structural Construction Building Administration. Elective: Quantity
