Revised Course Background

Course Duration

The Office Administration course runs over a two-year period, with two intakes per year—in January and June.

National Examination

Students complete internal assessments, including formative and summative assignments (01–16), which contribute to the POE (Portfolio of Evidence). Monthly assessments, mid-year, and end-of-year exams track progress and prepare students for the final External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA), administered by the relevant SETA. Students may qualify for the EISA after 12, 18, or 24 months, depending on their pace of completion.

Qualification Structure

The qualification consists of three core elements: Knowledge Modules, Practical Skill Modules, and Work Experience Modules.


Knowledge Modules

Students gain foundational knowledge in key office administration functions, including:

  • Records and Document Management

  • Customer Service Techniques

  • Time and Task Management

  • Financial and Budgeting Basics

  • Office Procedures and Protocols

  • Professional Ethics

Practical Skill Modules

Hands-on experience is a core part of the course. Students will develop real-world skills such as:

  • Typing and data entry

  • Document formatting and filing

  • Handling office correspondence

  • Scheduling and calendar management

  • Reception and telephone etiquette

Work Experience Modules

These modules prepare students for the real world by simulating tasks encountered in actual office settings:

  • Supporting management and teams with admin tasks

  • Managing inventory and supplies

  • Preparing reports and presentations

  • Handling confidential documents

  • Working within administrative systems

    • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent

    • Basic computer literacy

    • Proficiency in English

    Applicants with relevant work experience may also be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Students who successfully complete the course and pass the final EISA will receive a nationally recognized certificate accredited by the appropriate Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA).
