COURSE BACKGROUND

A computer technician is an individual who identifies, troubleshoots and resolves computer problems. Computer technicians possess skilled knowledge, hands-on experience and different tools to repair and maintain computer hardware, software and network/Internet issues.
A computer technician is also known as a PC technician or PC repair technician.

 Duration of the course
it is a two years course with 2 intakes per year that is January, June.

National Examination
Learners will have to complete internal assessments (FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE) assignments 01-16 those assignments are part of General Assessments towards the POE File. Learners will be doing the monthly internal assessments, mid-year exams and end of the year exams to assess the students if they are progress towards the EISA Exams. At the end of the course which is 12/18/24 months must be completed which gives a student a right to sit in for the EISA Examinations. These are exams from Seta.

    • Ready for work standards.

    Total number of credits for Knowledge Modules: 109.

Practical Skill Modules
  • Troubleshoot computer and network faults.
  • Maintain computer and network security.
  • Provide support to end Users.
  • Install computer software and hardware.

Total number of credits for Practical Skill Modules: 73.



Work Experience Modules
  • Respond to user inquiries regarding fault request.
  • Set up equipment for users, check operating system performance and ensure proper installation of cables and software.
  • Processes of maintaining computer systems and peripherals.
  • Identify the potential green technologies, processes and procedures for cost effective application and create a sustainable computer environment to reduce e-waste.
  • Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.
    Total number of credits for Work Experience Modules: 100.

Learners who have passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: COMPUTER TECHNICIAN by Quality Council. Certificates are only issued to students that pass the EISA (NATIONAL EXAMS) whereby this certificate is Nationally and Internationally recognized.
