COURSE BACKGROUND
Students enrolling in the Human Resource Management (N4-N6) program are introduced to the four key areas of Human Resources: the provision of manpower, the maintenance and utilization of staff, staff development, and labour relations. This course provides an in-depth exploration of these essential aspects. Upon completion, students will be equipped to apply knowledge, relevant skills, and communication abilities—both written and verbal—in the practice of personnel management. These skills include motivation, group dynamics, leadership, and information systems as applicable to human resource management, as well as the presentation of information.
Human Resource Management focuses on acquiring, developing, utilizing, and maintaining a skilled workforce to meet organizational needs effectively.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAM
Each level takes 6 months of full-time study to complete, totaling 18 months of theoretical learning. Afterward, students complete 18 months of practical experience in the industry. Generally, the entire program lasts 3 years, after which students qualify for a National Diploma.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will complete three certificates (N4-N6), along with 18 months of in-service training. After fulfilling all the necessary criteria, students will be awarded the National Diploma in Human Resource Management.
First Year
- First Semester: N4
- Second Semester: N5
Personnel Management
This module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of personnel functions, from recruitment and selection to performance appraisal, remuneration, and job evaluation. It also covers essential issues such as motivation, leadership, management, and communication within the workforce.
Management Communication
In this module, students learn the various disciplines of communication, motivation, and self-image as critical tools for organizational success. The course includes practical activities, particularly focusing on business communication documents and the role of advertising in marketing strategies.
Computer Practice
Students develop fundamental computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and basic internet and email functions.
Entrepreneurship and Business Management
This module covers the key aspects of starting and managing a business, with a focus on creating business plans and understanding the foundational concepts necessary for entrepreneurship.
Personnel Training
A well-trained workforce is essential for organizational success. This module focuses on training adults in the workplace and developing the necessary facilitation skills, along with a framework for assessing training needs.
Labour Relations
Students gain an understanding of maintaining healthy workplace relationships through effective communication, conflict resolution, and a system for addressing workplace issues. The course covers the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Labour Relations Act, as well as topics such as trade union issues, disciplinary hearings, disputes, strikes, and negotiations.
Second Year
- First Semester: N6
Personnel Management
As in previous semesters, this module deepens the student’s understanding of personnel functions, including recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, remuneration, and more. It continues to emphasize motivation, leadership, management, and communication.
Personnel Training
Focusing on further developing training skills, this module ensures students gain a solid foundation for training adults in the workplace, alongside strategies for assessing training needs.
Computer Practice
Students will further hone their computer skills, emphasizing tools necessary for effective communication and data management in human resources.
Labour Relations
The course continues with advanced topics in maintaining harmonious labour relations. It builds on foundational knowledge, covering issues like strikes, disciplinary hearings, and negotiations, while providing further insight into applicable labor laws.
Many career opportunities that exist in various fields. Graduates will be equipped to join Human Resource management departments, present in most medium to large organizations, and can specialize as recruitment officers, consultants, labor relations personnel, etc.
Grade 12 National Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification
The National Diploma in Human Resources Management is made up of the following courses which are done over a period of 18 months.
